Class Teacher - Humanities and Ethics
Required from September 2024 (Permanent)
We are looking for an outstanding and innovative Class Teacher with QTS to join our fantastic team at Presfield High School and support our unique and outstanding students who all have a diagnosis of Autism. We are looking for an outstanding teacher with a fantastic skill set and keen interest in teaching Humanities and Ethics.
As a Class Teacher, you will have responsibility for teaching both Humanities and Ethics across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 curriculums. The successful candidate will be an innovative teacher, capable of teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5. They will develop and drive forward exciting curriculum ideas and initiatives, offering a breadth of experience that builds on students interests and offers progression routes including accessing qualifications in line with the students ability levels.
Your work will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure and you will be working in a school where we maintain a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible. You will be expected to share our vision of shaping futures, changing lives by empowering vulnerable young people, to advocate for themselves, be happy and contribute positively to society.
Whilst prior knowledge of Autism, sensory needs and previous experience of working in an SEN environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills, commitment and levels of resilience are just as important.
When it comes to looking after our students, we never settle for second best.
Presfield High School & Specialist College is an oversubscribed specialist provision which caters for students with a primary diagnosis of Autism from age 11 through to 19. All our 124 students have an EHCP which identifies Autism as their primary need. We are advocates of Dr Stephen Shore’s belief that “If you have met one child with autism you have met ONE child with autism”. This underpins all that we do and we are committed to challenging the stereotypical views that are often associated with Autism.
We passionately believe in empowering our students and their families to advocate for their individual needs, to support them to make meaningful contributions to society and to gain employment if that is their chosen destination. This is demonstrated in our diverse curriculum that promotes an aspirational academic and social pathway.
Interested candidates are welcome to attend for an informal tour around the school. Please contact the School Office on 01704 227831 should you wish to arrange a tour of the school.
We are committed to promoting the safeguarding and welfare of children and Young People and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful applicants will be requested to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Due to the nature of the work involved, this post is "exempt" from the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
