Knowsley Council is The Municipal Journal's Local Authority of the Year 2024 winner, as well as the Local Government Chronicle's winner of the Public / Private Partnership 2024 Award for its partnership with the Shakespeare North Trust to deliver the Shakespeare North Playhouse.

Knowsley is home to over 160,000 people in and around the main townships of Huyton, Kirkby, Prescot and Halewood. With 6,200 new homes built since 2015 and a further 3,000 currently in the pipeline, this choice is only set to increase, with quality homebuilders bringing new homes and more choice in terms of size, style and budget to the market. Knowsley is one of the top 10 hotspot areas for first time buyers, based on research conducted by the Halifax.

Knowsley has a great strategic location which is well connected by road and rail with fantastic public transport links and easy access to both Liverpool and Manchester airports, giving access to the lifestyle offer of Liverpool to the west and Manchester to the east.

Knowsley is one of only 14 areas of the UK to boast a prestigious Garden Village development. Halsnead Garden Village in Whiston is Knowsley's largest development site and will create a vibrant community attracting new people and families into the area alongside providing new employment space, a Country Park, additional education provision and associated community facilities.

Attractions in Knowsley include Knowsley Safari, which attracts over 600,000 visitors a year across its 550-acre Safari Drive. The Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, a remarkable cultural venue celebrating Knowsley's fascinating links to William Shakespeare, is home to the only purpose built timber framed theatre outside of London, the Sir Ken Dodd Performance Garden, café, shop and exhibition gallery.

Alongside these major attractions sit historic town centres, a growing selection of cafes, restaurants and bars, a regular events programme including the popular Knowsley Flower Show and Prescot Elizabethan Fayre, public art trails and interesting smaller family attractions including Acorn Farm and Space World. Knowsley is also home to Kirkby Gallery, Prescot Museum, Knowsley Velodrome and BMX Track, and Knowsley Hall, a magnificent stately home dating back to 1495 set within 2,500 acres of a private walled estate.

Everton FC have their academy and first team training facilities in Halewood, while Liverpool FC's academy and first team are based in Kirkby. There's also an engaging programme of events and performances delivered at the world-class Shakespeare North Playhouse, and Knowsley's great strategic location and excellent transport links make it an ideal place to get around and travel to other major cities including Manchester and Liverpool.

Transport

Whether you're travelling by road or rail, Knowsley is very easy to reach. Fifteen minutes from Liverpool City Centre and 30 minutes from Manchester, Knowsley is perfectly positioned. Sitting directly on the region's motorway network, you can reach more than 50% of the entire UK population within a four-hour drive.

Conveniently, Knowsley also sits between two international airports, is only 8 miles away from the Port of Liverpool and is well served by local rail and bus connections. Directly off the A580 East Lancashire Road and M62, Knowsley can be accessed easily from Liverpool and Manchester and is connected from north to south by the M57 and A5300 Knowsley Expressway.

There is an extensive train timetable with direct trains to Liverpool and Manchester, and multiple bus stations provide easy transit around the borough.
