Wirral's theatres are some of the best in the North West, and our rich cultural history with museums, art galleries and architecture make a fantastic day out. The Maritime Trail gives you the opportunity to discover country parks, the U-Boat story and great beaches along our coast, and you can sail and windsurf at West Kirby Marine Lake.

There is also a range of food and drink experiences to suit all tastes, from farm shops and butchers to multi-award winning gourmet restaurants and bars.

Places to Visit

Wirral has everything you could wish for; coast, countryside and city all in close proximity. Explore Wirral's coast and countryside, which offers 50 miles of beautiful rural walks, plus cycle routes and beaches. Idyllic countryside locations include Heswall, Birkenhead Park, Thurstaston, Port Sunlight and Thornton Hough.

Wirral is also home to Hilbre Island, one of the most beautiful locations for walking in Wirral, or spotting rare and endangered wildlife. Make sure to also visit our fantastic seaside towns of Hoylake, West Kirby and New Brighton.

Schools

Wirral provides a wide choice of education including several independent and grammar schools. In Wirral we want every child to reach their full potential, and our schools have the safeguarding and welfare of children at the heart of everything they do.

Wirral Metropolitan College is the lead organisation for the Northwest for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, and is working to establish a new campus at Wirral Waters specialising in skills closely related to the needs of local and regional employers. More than 15 universities are also located near to Wirral, including several world-class establishments in Liverpool and Manchester.

Transport

Wirral is well connected with many public transport options, including buses coordinated by Merseytravel, frequent trains operated by Merseyrail and the Mersey Ferry service. You can also travel to Liverpool through the Queensway and Kingsway Tunnels.

Wirral also features great cycling routes, including the National Cycle Network Route 56 that runs through the borough, taking in Seacombe, New Brighton, Liverpool Bay and many picturesque villages.
