Operative 2 - Street Cleansing
About the role
This is a pivotal role within Operational In-House Services, Street Cleansing. You will work as part of a team to provide a high-quality environmental maintenance service including both planned and reactive work for all aspects of street cleansing and grounds maintenance works (including winter gritting and snow clearance) across the public realm. You will be required to work in any area of the Borough, maintaining optimum cleanliness, operating equipment as necessary – training will be provided. You will be undertaking cleansing activities as required such as litter, detritus, weed and fly tipping removal, supporting compliance with public health, safety, and environmental regulations. There will be a requirement to work in any area of the Borough.
The key responsibilities include:
- Deliver a high‑quality environmental maintenance service as part of a team
- Carry out both planned and reactive street cleansing and grounds maintenance works
- Undertake winter maintenance duties, including gritting and snow clearance
- Maintain cleanliness across all areas of the Borough as required
- Operate cleansing and maintenance equipment safely and effectively (training provided)
- Perform routine cleansing tasks such as litter picking, detritus removal and weed control
- Remove fly‑tipped waste in accordance with procedures and safety requirements
- Complete the necessary recording documentation, either hard copy or electronically as allocated.
- Using mobile technology, maintain communication in accordance with the Council’s procedures and Statutory Regulations.
- Assist the driver with regular vehicle and ancillary equipment checks, assist with any routine cleansing and basic maintenance of vehicle and equipment to ensure optimum efficiency of cleansing operation.
- Undertake ancillary duties appropriate to the type of work being done.
- Duties will be carried out for jobs up to and including those in the same grade, provided such duties are within the competence of the employee.
