We are seeking an experienced and motivated Revenues & Benefits Officer to join our Exchequer Services team. This is a key operational role supporting the effective delivery of Council Tax service, helping residents understand their liabilities, access entitlements, and manage payments.
In this role you will:
- Assess and determine Council Tax, matters, including discounts, exemptions and support
- Manage customer accounts, arrears and payment arrangements in line with legislation and council policy
- Provide high‑quality advice and resolve enquiries through telephone and written contact
- Identify vulnerable customers and ensure appropriate support and safeguards are in place
- Support recovery action, prepare cases for court and tribunals, and assist with appeals and disputed decisions
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to service improvement, quality assurance and team objectives
We are looking for someone who:
- Has up‑to‑date working knowledge of Council Tax within a local authority or similar environment
- Is experienced in using revenues systems and standard IT packages
- Can prioritise workloads effectively and meet targets in a busy service
- Communicates clearly and professionally with customers and colleagues
- Works flexibly, collaboratively and in line with Knowsley’s Better Together values
While no formal qualifications are required, you must demonstrate strong literacy and numeracy skills and a commitment to ongoing learning and development.
