A bit about us:
Liverpool is home to vibrant, energetic, and engaged communities, people who take real ownership of their local area and are passionate about making our city a better place. We've got ambitious targets to meet and we need people who are driven, dynamic and ready to deliver the very best for our communities. Public service is more important than ever, and this role represents a real opportunity to make a difference to our communities by transforming the way we work and placing our residents at the heart of everything we do.
Working at Liverpool City Council provides an opportunity to contribute to your community and make a positive impact on the lives of residents. Our values shape how we work to deliver public services, and how we communicate with the residents we serve. We care about the best outcomes for local people, through our public services.
We are proud of our world-famous thriving city with its rich culture, as well as affordable housing, good schools, beautiful green spaces – there’s really something for everyone!
The role:
Liverpool is a city on the move, and we’re looking for a Building Control Team Leader who wants to be at the heart of it.
With major international events on the horizon, including the Tour de France Grand Départ in 2027 and the UEFA EURO 2028, Liverpool is preparing for one of the most exciting periods in its recent history. Our skyline is evolving, our communities are growing, and our Building Control service plays a central role in shaping a safe, high‑quality built environment for a world‑class city.
As a Building Control Team Leader, you will play a central role in delivering safe, compliant and high‑quality development across Liverpool. This is a role with real breadth, responsibility and influence.
- The role of the Area Team Leader will be leading on-site supervision of major construction schemes across the city, managing and developing a multidisciplinary team of Registered Building Inspectors, trainees and structural engineers and working closely with the Head of Building Control to manage the service, shape policy and act as deputy when required
- The Area Team Leader will be supporting business growth by working with the Building Control Manager and Quality & Business Growth Officer to increase market share and prepare competitive fee proposals as well as representing Liverpool City Council as a senior technical expert during a period of major citywide investment and regeneration
- This senior role sits at the heart of our Building Control service, leading on-site supervision of major schemes, managing a multidisciplinary team of Registered Building Inspectors, trainees and structural engineers, and acting as deputy to the Head of Building Control
- As the Area Team Leader you will play a key part in shaping policy, enforcing the Safety at Sports Grounds Act across all three football stadiums within the city boundary, and supporting business growth through competitive fee proposals and market expansion
- For the role of Team Leader we’re seeking a highly qualified professional (RICS, CABE, CIOB or MIFE) with LABC/CIOB Level 6 or equivalent experience, and demonstrable competency to Specialist Level including Class 3H
- With Liverpool offering a significantly lower cost of living and more affordable housing than many other major UK cities, plus a relocation package for those moving to the region, this is a rare opportunity to take on a high‑impact leadership role in a vibrant, ambitious and fast‑growing city
Our offer to you:
- At least 27 days holiday, plus bank holidays rising to 32 after 5 years’ service (pro rata if part time) - option to purchase further days
- Agile working (role dependent) - a “Flexibility First” approach to agile working, where flexibility is the norm rather than the exception
- Part of the Local Government Pension Scheme – option to join the AVC Scheme
- Progression - opportunities and training through a wide range of high quality learning
- Health and Wellbeing - offer including Employee Assistance Programme
- Cycle to Work and Travel Pass Schemes
- Drive Time – a salary sacrifice car lease scheme
- Family friendly policies with enhanced leave
