About the Role

Can be required to work at any of the Council Depots as required by the service.

JOB PURPOSE

Undertake cleansing activities as required such as litter removal, detritus, weed and fly tipping removal.

Jop positions available in both Tulketh and Hawthorne Road depots, but may be required to work in any area of the Borough, maintaining optimum cleanliness, operating equipment as necessary – training will be provided. 

MAIN DUTIES

  • Collect, and dispose of any refuse / spoils / waste etc. as per the defined standards and practices. This could involve the use of any refuse receptacle i.e. sacks, wheelie bins, commercial waste bins or the disposal of bulky items, hazardous substances.
  • Brush and clean defined areas using appropriate equipment and cleaning products as per training and remove spillages.
  • Operate compression mechanisms, tools and equipment as appropriate.
  • Load and unload vehicles manually or using mechanical aids as appropriate.
  • Manual Handling techniques and Banksman reversing experience are desirable.
  • Using mobile technology, maintain communication in accordance with the Council’s procedures and Statutory Regulations.
  • Assist the driver with regular vehicle and ancillary equipment checks and assist with any routine cleansing and basic maintenance of vehicle and equipment to ensure optimum efficiency of operation.
  • Knowledge of the Sefton borough would be advantageous.

Must have the ability to work in locations such as rear entries, removing fly tipping, animal faeces/carcass etc. and undertake all recording methods as directed by management either via paper documentation or electronic, as required.

Applicants must have the ability to demonstrate reliability, excellent punctuality and good attendance.  A commitment to work overtime to meet the needs of the service is required.

As part of the wider service, you will play a role in supporting the service to meet the requirements of the Environment Act 2021 regarding the roll out of simpler recycling principals and the implementation of food waste collections.  Additionally, you will also support the continued promotion of the management of waste through reducing, reusing and recycling.
