Planning Officer

Following renewed investment in the Planning service a number of significant opportunities have arisen to join the city’s planning service and make an invaluable contribution to the city’s future development, growth and  regeneration and the securing of positive outcomes for the city’s neighbourhoods and residents.

The roles are across all parts of the service including Development Management, Enforcement and Technical Support functions and the newly created  Placemaking and Policy team, which presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of sustainable, inclusive and high quality development, design and placemaking within the City and to work on the upcoming Local Plan review and preparation of SPDs, Strategies and masterplans including a Residential Design Guide and Heritage Strategy.

We are looking for people with a positive and proactive approach, with experience of working in an urban area and who have extensive experience of ensuring the delivery of and championing quality placemaking. We want people who are customer focussed and driven to provide a modern, business friendly Planning Service. 

As a Planning Officer, you will carry out a full range of development management functions within the development management team and provide a modern, customer focussed and business friendly service.

You will also be responsible for:

  • The assessing and processing the full range of planning applications and also applications for consent to display advertisements and demolish/alter Listed Buildings etc including: the carrying out of all necessary consultations and negotiations; the preparation of recommendations and reports.
  • To carry out the full validation process for planning applications including the checking of drawings, assessing of fees and permitted development rights.
  • Dealing with appeals against planning decisions, including the preparation of the Council’s case and the presenting of evidence at hearings, where appropriate.
  • Dealing with pre application enquiries
