Health and Safety Officer
Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is looking for a Health and Safety Officer. Reporting to the Health, Safety and Occupational Health Business Partner, the Health and Safety Officer will be the key point of contact providing competent and professional health, safety and wellbeing advice across Liverpool City Region Combined Authority; in particular within the Asset Management service area in their functions. As well as delivering health, safety and wellbeing training to employees.
The successful applicant will provide competent advice to management, in particular related to Construction Design and Management Regulations; supporting line management in their functions to ensure the health, safety and welfare of everyone. Consistently monitoring health, safety and wellbeing and providing suitable recommendations to improve health, safety and wellbeing across the organisation.
Due to the 24/7 critical safety working environment, there will be a requirement to be flexible and responsive to the needs of the business.
Key role and responsibilities: You will:
- Provide competent, technical and practical health and safety advice and guidance to ensure all legal and other requirements are continually met.
- Assist the Asset Management service area to meet its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety, environmental and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
- Conduct frequent site visits, inspections and audits providing health and safety guidance whilst supporting/encouraging good safety practices.
- Keep up to date with applicable aspects of relevant health, safety, welfare at work and environmental legislation/regulations including updates and developments, interpret and communicate relevant changes to service area management. Review/amend local policies and procedures as appropriate.
- Co-ordinate the development of local health, safety, environmental policies, safe systems of work and procedures.
- Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated
- Attend service area meetings to provide health and safety updates.
Required skills and knowledge:
- The successful applicant will be qualified to a minimum NEBOSH general Certificate or equivalent.
- The successful applicant will have demonstratable experience in Construction, Engineering and/or Marine environments; having previously provided support to line management in their functions.
- The successful applicant will have experience in delivering training at all levels of an organisation.
- You will have demonstrable experience undertaking health and safety audits and inspections, as well as accident investigations.
- You must have excellent verbal written and communication skills and the confidence to work independently along with substantial, demonstrable and relevant experience of working in a Health and Safety role.
- You must have excellent interpersonal skills, to enable development of effective working relationships at all levels across the wider organisation.
- The ability to work collaboratively and motivate staff successfully at all levels across the wider organisation.
- Experience of contributing to a high-performance culture
- You must have a positive and passionate attitude and approach towards health, safety and wellbeing, possessing strong communication and motivational skills with a keen eye for detail.
