Associate Senior Leader - Head of Sixth Form

Required from September 2024 (Permanent)

We are looking for an Associate Senior Leader who is an outstanding and innovative Teacher to join our fantastic team at Presfield High School and Head our Sixth Form provision.

You will sustain and improve the quality of education and care offered to the Sixth form students in the school through promoting the highest possible standards of education, equality of opportunity, and an environment which is conducive to excellence in teaching and learning, whilst having a 75% teaching commitment at Key Stage 5.

Please refer to the attached job description and person specification for full details of the post.

Your work will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure and you will be working in a school where we maintain a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible. You will be expected to share our vision of shaping futures, changing lives by empowering vulnerable young people, to advocate for themselves, be happy and contribute positively to society.

Whilst prior knowledge of Autism, sensory needs and previous experience of working in an SEN environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills, commitment and levels of resilience are just as important.

When it comes to looking after our students, we never settle for second best.

Presfield High School & Specialist College is an oversubscribed specialist provision which caters for students with a primary diagnosis of Autism from age 11 through to 19. All our 124 students have an EHCP which identifies Autism as their primary need. We are advocates of Dr Stephen Shore’s belief that “If you have met one child with autism you have met ONE child with autism”. This underpins all that we do and we are committed to challenging the stereotypical views that are often associated with Autism.

We passionately believe in empowering our students and their families to advocate for their individual needs, to support them to make meaningful contributions to society and to gain employment if that is their chosen destination. This is demonstrated in our diverse curriculum that promotes an aspirational academic and social pathway.

Interested candidates are welcome to attend for an informal tour around the school. Please contact the School Office on 01704 227831 should you wish to arrange a tour of the school.

We are committed to promoting the safeguarding and welfare of children and Young People and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All successful applicants will be requested to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Due to the nature of the work involved, this post is "exempt" from the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
