Technical Officer / Senior Technical Officer - Trading Standards Port Surveillance Officer

Sefton Trading Standards is a Market Surveillance Authority responsible for ensuring consumer goods entering the UK via the Port of Liverpool comply with safety laws, protecting the public from unsafe imports.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 self-motivated and dynamic individuals to join the team, working in the Office of Product Safety and Standard’s (OPSS) Ports and Borders Programme.
As a Port Surveillance Officer you will work within our Trading Standards team where your primary role will be to check products at the port for compliance against regulations and safety standards, via in-house screen testing and external test houses. Dealing with other border agencies, importers, shipping agents and inland Trading Standards authorities you will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with an enquiring mind, have an attention to detail and an ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
Experience in dealing with consumer safety legislation or border controls would be advantageous but not essential as full support and training will be provided. The posts are 12 month contracts funded by the OPSS with the hope of further funding beyond the 12 months. Salary will depend on level of qualifications and experience.
