Our Team:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead Halton Borough Council’s Health & Safety Team based in DCBL Stadium, Widnes. The Council and HR Operations Division wishes to recruit a Principal Health and Safety Advisor who cares for the health, safety and wellbeing of employees, and any others affected by the Council’s undertaking, and to also maintain a strong and positive Health & Safety culture.

In leading and managing the Council’s Health & Safety Team you will identify and advise on best practice in Health & Safety, and the impact of changes in the Council’s delivery of services to ensure the Council remains compliant and manages its responsibilities and obligations under Health & Safety law.

Your Contributions:

You will be responsible for managing a team that works across all Council services and schools including academies, engaging with managers to ensure that Health & Safety responsibilities are understood and have tools in place to monitor compliance.

You are required to be a Chartered Member of IOSH and hold a NEBOSH diploma or equivalent, and support your team to be up to date on best practice, legislations and appropriately qualified. You will have experience of working in Public Sector organisations or equivalent, and a training qualification would be useful.

You will also be the Risk Management Co-ordinator for the Authority leading on the compilation and appropriate reviewing of the Strategic Risk Register, and will also be the Radiation Protection Officer for schools within the borough carrying out regular audits.

You will be expected to liaise with the Health & Safety Executive on behalf of the Council if required, oversee on accident/incident and violent incident management and investigation, and work closely with the Councils Insurance Team.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership and inter-personal skills and be confident in liaising with all levels of management, unions, stakeholders, and elected members.

You will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software and be able to adapt to the use of in house built electronic systems.
