Liverpool was officially recognised as the world’s first “Accelerator City” for climate action under the UN Climate Change Entertainment and Culture for Climate Action (ECCA) programme in September 2024, this role will continue to develop this programme of work across all events.

The role:
- The role of Accelerator City Sustainability Project Manager will provide leadership of the next phase of the Accelerator City sustainability programme, embedding sustainability across all major culture and sports events, including the Tour de France stage finish and UEFA EURO 2028
- Delivery of the Accelerator City Sustainability Project Manager role will include developing and implementing sustainability strategies aligned with Liverpool City Council’s climate and social value priorities, ensuring ISO 20121 compliance and consistent sustainability reporting across all events
- In the role of Accelerator City Sustainability Project Manager you will lead sustainable procurement, waste reduction, energy management, transport planning, accessibility, inclusion and environmental impact reduction across the major events portfolio
- The role of Accelerator City Sustainability Project Manager requires close collaboration with internal teams, governing bodies, event organisers, communities and cultural partners to integrate sustainability into event bidding, planning, delivery and legacy
- Your demonstrable knowledge as an Accelerator City Sustainability Project Manager will include embedding sustainability in largescale events, managing sustainability KPIs and reporting frameworks, advising organisers on sustainable best practice, and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation
- The role of Accelerator City Sustainability Project Manager will also involve supporting delivery teams, managing suppliers and contractors, contributing to long term legacy planning, and promoting Liverpool’s sustainability leadership locally, nationally and internationally
This post is fixed term for the purpose of delivering the 2026 – 2028 culture and sports event programme and will end October 2028.
