Housing Standards is St Helens Borough Council’s private sector housing enforcement service, committed to ensuring that rented homes are safe, healthy and well managed. We work closely with landlords, tenants and managing agents to improve housing conditions, tackle poor standards and enforce housing legislation where necessary. Join our dedicated Housing Standards Team and play a key role in improving neighbourhoods and revitalising communities across St Helens. As a Housing and Empty Homes Officer, you will help bring long-term empty properties back into use, support housing improvement initiatives, and work closely with landlords, property owners, residents and partner agencies. This varied and rewarding role combines community engagement, data analysis, project support and service administration, offering the opportunity to make a real difference to housing outcomes across the borough. Working as part of a supportive and forward-thinking team, you will contribute to the delivery of the Council's Empty Homes Strategy and wider ambitions to create safe, sustainable and thriving communities.

Employees can regularly work away from Council workspaces (including home or other locations), alongside required office-based working. The balance between remote and office-based working is determined at service level based on operational need, however, there has been a minimum specification that staff will work at least 2 days from an office-based location.
