Specialist Support Teacher

Liverpool City Council are looking to recruit a Specialist Support Teacher within the Special Education Needs Inclusion Support Service (SENISS) to part time role to cover adoption leave.

The role will be 4 days a week for a fixed term until 220 December to cover adoption leave within the service. The start date dependent upon notice periods. You are advised that this post is determined in accordance with the statutory provisions in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document and the salary is ranges from £30,000 to £46,525 + SEN allowance (Max. £5009), as this is part time the salary will be pro rata to reflect this.

SENISS are part of the SEND Support Services within Children’s Services, Liverpool Local Authority. It is a hybrid role, working in schools and settings with an office based at Parklands Customer Focus Centre, Speke.

This role provides a unique opportunity to support the inclusive arrangements in settings and pupils with SEND within mainstream provision. You will be required to implement various assessment procedures, specialist teaching strategies, consultation and to provide bespoke guidance to colleagues. You will also provide opportunities to develop and present training packages to colleagues and settings.

This role requires creative solutions, effective collaborative practices, based on strong knowledge and strategies in relation to special educational needs.

SENISS aims to empower settings and children and young people with SEND to achieve a positive and fulfilled futures.

Responsibilities:

  • To support the Local Authority’s Strategy on Inclusion by assisting schools and settings to become more inclusive.
  • To assess and identify pupil need and advise on appropriate SEND strategy, curriculum, and specialist approaches within settings.
  • To raise the attainment, achievement, attendance and outcomes for pupils with SEND.
  • To facilitate aspects LCC’s inclusive arrangements such as early identification of need.

What You’ll Need:

  • A recognised degree and qualified teacher status
  • Additional relevant qualification at post graduate level (e.g. Masters, PG Cert.) in the area of SEND, for example autism, SENDCo Award
  • Significant experience in teaching pupils with SEND in a mainstream early years setting, primary and/or resourced provision and/or specialist setting
  • Recent practice of assessing and identifying pupils’ needs with SEND
  • Recent practice in identifying targets and developing pupil support plans or individualised programmes of study, to ensure pupil inclusion
