Officer for Ex-offenders Accommodation

A bit about us:

Liverpool is home to vibrant, energetic and engaged communities, people who take real ownership of their local area and are passionate about making our city a better place. We've got ambitious targets to meet by 2025 and we need people who are driven, dynamic and ready to deliver the very best for our communities. Public service is more important than ever, and this role represents a real opportunity to make a difference to our communities by transforming the way we work and placing our residents at the heart of everything we do.

Working at Liverpool City Council provides an opportunity to contribute to your community and make a positive impact on the lives of residents. Our values shape how we work to deliver public services and how we communicate with the residents we serve. We care about the best outcomes for local people, through our public services.

We are proud of our world-famous thriving city with its rich culture, affordable housing, stunning waterfront and our beautiful green spaces – there’s really something for everyone!

The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced individuals to undertake the role of Accommodation for Ex-Offenders Officer in the Neighbourhoods and Housing Directorate.

The Accommodation for Ex-Offenders program (AFEO) is designed to support homeless prison leavers to access the private rented sector, reducing the chances of this cohort rough sleeping and reoffending.

We are looking for capable and ambitious individuals who are keen to work with this client group in community and prison settings, as well as to assess and determine the Council’s housing duty under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

As Ex-offender Accommodation Officer, you will develop housing pathways into private rented accommodation, providing appropriate advice and support to assist applicants to sustain their tenancy as part of Liverpool’s Housing Options Service. You will also play a key part in developing partnership working with relevant agencies and services working with ex-offenders.

Applications are invited from individuals who have relevant experience working within the criminal justice sector and are passionate and self-driven to ensure that the housing needs of pre-release inmates are explored at the first available opportunity and that thorough assessments and plans that meet the needs of individuals are put in place.

This is a hybrid role with an office base in the Cunard Building and some work in community and prison settings. There is also the opportunity to work from home for part of the working week as needed.

If this role is for you and you want to work in a fast-paced area that will give you huge job satisfaction as well as supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our community, we would love to hear from you!

Please download the job description and person specification (at the bottom of this page) to learn more about the role. Please note that you must meet every essential criteria in the person specification in order to be shortlisted.

Our offer to you:

  • 35 hour working week with hybrid working model
  • At least 31 days holiday rising to 35 after 5 years service – option to purchase further days
  • Agile working – a ‘Flexibility First’ approach to agile working, where flexibility is the norm rather than the exception
  • Part of the Local Government Pension scheme – option to join the AVC scheme
  • Progression – opportunities and training through a wide range of high quality learning
  • Health and Wellbeing offer including employee assistance programme
  • Cycle to Work and Travel Pass Schemes
  • Drive Time – a salary sacrifice car lease scheme
  • Family friendly policies with enhanced leave
  • Discounted gym memberships
  • Employee Volunteering Scheme
  • Medicash
