Senior Accountant x 2

Fixed Term for 12 Months

About the Role:

Wirral Borough Council is seeking experienced and talented individuals to join our dynamic finance team in financial roles in two areas. As a Senior Accountant you will play a pivotal role in driving financial excellence and provide accurate, timely and comprehensive financial information and analysis to inform decision making and financial management activities.

We are looking to recruit additional resources to support the Finance Team with the Neighbourhoods and Regeneration Directorates.

The Neighbourhood’s Directorate is undergoing some significant and rapid change programs to support the delivery of extensive financial savings, in the short to medium term. There is a time limited team, to underpin this work and support the provision of reliable data and information and to undertake complex financial analysis to aid decision making within the service. The role will assist the Directorate with a review of systems and processes, primarily within the area of Leisure, Highways and other key service areas.

The Regeneration Directorate has ambitious plans to rationalise the Councils Assets at pace.  A time limited accountant is needed to support these plans, undertaking forensic accounting to ensure all costs, income and financial benefits are fully captured from across the Councils departments.  The role will assist both the Directorate and ensure the Finance Director has the necessary information on the financial implications relating to each asset being considered.

About the candidate:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting non finance teams in monitoring and maintaining their budgets, as well as delivering on technical, finance and accountancy-related responsibilities.

Please refer to the individual Job Descriptions for the full list of requirements but the key areas are outlined below.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide financial advice and guidance to both finance and non-finance colleagues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders across the organisation
  • Experience of successfully working in a team environment
  • Demonstrable experience of maintaining financial control mechanisms, including reconciliation activity
