Breastfeeding Support Worker

Would you like to be part of a service that helps to build the foundation of better health outcomes for children in Halton and reduce health inequalities?

With the launch of Family Hubs in Halton, this is an exciting time to be a part of the children’s agenda. Halton Health Improvement Team is looking to recruit a Breastfeeding Support Worker to join the Infant Feeding Team. We are looking for candidates who have relevant training and experience of supporting parents with breastfeeding.

The Infant Feeding Team works closely alongside the Infant Feeding Specialist Lead at Halton 0-19 Service, and in collaboration with Family Hubs, midwives and health visitors.

Our collective aim is to increase the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding; not only by providing antenatal information during pregnancy and supporting breastfeeding after birth, but by helping to create a culture in Halton where breastfeeding is the norm.

The Infant Feeding service offers infant feeding support and advice to all parents, as well as one to one support with breastfeeding. The team delivers antenatal workshops, introducing solid food workshops and are involved in wider campaigns to promote breastfeeding.

The core service runs from 9.00am-5.00pm Monday to Friday, with some evening work to cover workshops and to meet the needs of the service. Services are delivered from a variety of locations, including clients’ homes, Family Hubs, clinics, community venues and agile office working.

Do you have excellent people and communication skills, and enjoy working with the public? Do you have a passion for breastfeeding and extensive knowledge of the benefits? We are seeking a motivated and compassionate person to join our team; someone who understands local health issues and the barriers to breastfeeding.

You must be able to work as part of a team, and be flexible, adaptable and responsive, as this is a service where the needs of service users come first, and no two days are ever the same.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and commitment, in order to provide the best possible support and advice to all parents. You will work under the supervision and direction of the Early Years Health Improvement Specialist, as well as supporting the Infant Feeding Specialist clinics under Bridgewater NHS Trust, with clinical supervision from the Specialist Lead.

Ideally, you will have completed the 2-day UNICEF breastfeeding management and relationship building training (or equivalent), in addition to existing knowledge of the health benefits of breastfeeding. You will have experience of supporting breastfeeding in a voluntary or paid capacity, and an ability to assess and plan care.

* When completing your Application, please refer to the Job Profile and detail how you meet the requirements in your supporting statement.*

In return we can offer you:

  • * A generous leave package of 26 days annual leave (pro rata) + Bank Holidays (Increasing after 5 years’ service)
  • * Membership to the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • * Investment in your personal development
  • * Free car parking at HBC sites
  • * Access to a range of discount schemes
  • * Access to a car leasing scheme

This is a 30-hour part-time post. Core days and hours are Tuesday to Friday, 9.00am-5.00pm, with occasional evening and weekend work.

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Claire Fyles, Health Improvement Specialist on 0151 511 5405.

Interviews will be held on Friday 13th December 2024.
