An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Knowsley Council’s Public Health team as a Public Health Programme Manager, with a focus on the health of children, young people and families.
Good physical and mental health are at the heart of what it means to thrive. Children’s experiences from their earliest years have life-long effects not only on their health and wellbeing, but also on their life chances.
This new permanent post has been created with the aim of improving the health of children and young people who live in Knowsley, equipping them to thrive. You will join up working between the Council and system partners to deliver effective high-quality services and support for the borough’s children and young people. You will work with partners across the local health system to join up transformational and operational programmes which affect children’s health, with the aim of adding value and enhancing service delivery. You will influence initiatives and programmes being delivered across the borough to address inequalities in children’s health.
Partnership working is crucial if services are to have a real impact on children’s health. You will develop and lead collaborative work to improve children’s health across local systems: with other public services, the private sector, the community sector, and – most importantly – children, young people and their families. This collective response will break down barriers between services, and identify gaps in provision with a view to improving service delivery for children and young people to achieve better outcomes and better experiences of services.
You will be looking to improve outcomes in relation to public health areas such as vaccination uptake, oral health, mental health, sexual health, obesity, breastfeeding and the wider determinants of health.
You will be someone with a clear vision and a strong commitment to improving children’s health – including the health of children who are growing up in challenging circumstances, and those who have experience of the care system. You will have excellent influencing and negotiating skills, and experience in driving change in local systems to improve health outcomes for children, young people and families.
We are looking for someone who enjoys developing new collaborative relationships and leading multi-agency strategic partnerships. You will enjoy working across Council services, embracing a ‘health in all policies’ approach, and acting as an advocate for children’s public health priorities and action with system partners. The children and young people in our communities are among our borough’s greatest assets, and you will make sure their voices are heard and their views shape policies which affect their health.
