Assistant Head Teacher

A permanent opportunity for an Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Early Years as the EYFS Lead, teaching responsibility in Reception Class, with DSL responsibilities and staff management.
We are looking for an outstanding, enthusiastic, experienced and determined practitioner to ensure all our pupils get the best start in their education and achieve a good level of development.
The Governors are looking to employ a committed, reflective and experienced Early Years Lead / Reception Class Teacher, full time, (32.5 hours per week) who will lead, manage, develop and maintain high quality teaching and provision across our Early Years and to teach in Reception class.
This as an exciting opportunity for an experienced Early Years Lead, looking to step up into the role of Assistant Headteacher to work at our school, as a leader who is dedicated to providing the best outcomes for all of our pupils.

We are looking for someone who:
- Is an outstanding practitioner
- Has a strong background and specialist qualification in Early Years
- Has commitment and passion for inclusion, ensuring individual pupil needs are identified early and are met through targeted provision
- Has successfully led a subject across the whole school
- Has undertaken NPQ in leadership or is prepared to undertake the training
- Has worked effectively with external agencies
- Has a desire to work closely with families to enhance children’s experiences
- Is a team player, able to inspire others to approach their practice creatively so that all learners believe in themselves
- Will work strategically as part of the Leadership Team in the school
- Will work with teachers to help to monitor pupil progress throughout EYFS into Key Stage 1and drive high standards of teaching and learning
You will bring a real passion to raising the achievement and outcomes for our pupils, working alongside the Early Years team and ensure that the needs of all pupils are met within the classroom. You will work with a range of outside agencies to complement the work undertaken by our dedicated staff as well as overseeing our experienced team of Teaching Assistants.
Within this post an Assistant Headteacher/Early Years Leader is expected to
- Fulfil the duties of a teacher as outlined in the most recent School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
- Work with full regard for and an understanding of expectations within the Teacher Standards 2017 as outlined in STCPD Annexe 1.
- Be committed to safeguarding and promote the welfare and safety of children as outlined in school policies and ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children 2026’.
- Train and undertake the role of Designated Leader for safeguarding of Early Years pupils. (see separate job description)
- Participate fully in the school appraisal system including the evaluation of their own practise.
- Undertake role of performance management leader for support staff in Early Years and other support staff within the school community.
- Work with the Senior leadership team to ensure the strategic school development planning and self-evaluation is robust.
In addition to the responsibilities of class teacher, as set out by the class teacher job description and the school teachers’ pay and conditions document, the holder of the post is expected to carry out the professional duties of a subject leader with responsibilities as described below, as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school’s policies under the direction of the head teacher

Purpose
- To lead, manage, develop and maintain high quality provision in a subject, ensuring quality teaching, excellent learning outcomes and success for all pupils.
- To model effective teaching, to coach and train colleagues and to teach across the school.
- To ensure that the subject area is robustly monitored to ensure high standards are met across the school and report to subject Governor regularly.
- To keep all aspects of paperwork including records and policies, up-to-date and actioned, as appropriate.
